The Strength of a Man

The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It's seen in the width of his arms that circle you.

The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It's in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn't in how many buddies he has.
It's in how good of buddies he is with his kids.

The strength of a man isn't in how respected he is at work.
It's in how respected he is at home.

The strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits.
It's in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn't in the hair on his chest.
It's in his heart...that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn't how many women he has loved.
It's in how he can be true to one woman.

The strength of a man isn't in the weight he can lift.
It's in the burdens he can carry.

The problem with the past is we think we have to face it, when in fact it is at our backs. What we have to face is the future, without letting the past fuck it up.

What is it that I love?

If asked why I love her I would say
It’s the sway in her hips,
the thickness in her thighs.
It’s the lust in her lips,
the love in her eyes.
It’s the softness of her skin,
the silk in her hair.
It’s the twist in her walk;
it’s the sweetness in her talk.
It’s the way she loves me
that makes me love her each day.
That is what I would say.

I don't need a lot of things. I can get by with nothing. Of all the blessings life can bring, I've always needed something. But I've got all I want when it comes to loving you. You're my only reason. You're my only truth.
I need you like water, like breath, like rain. I need you like mercy from Heaven's gate. There's a freedom in your arms that carries me through. I need you.
You're the hope that moves me to courage again. You're the love that rescues me when the cold winds rage. And it's so amazing because that's just how you are. And I can't turn back now because you've brought me too far.
I need you like water, like breath, like rain. I need you like mercy from Heaven's gate. There's a freedom in your arms that carries me through. I need you.

I Need You by LeAnn Rimes

Will you be?

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful stop me and steal my breath. And emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky never revealing their depth.
And tell me that we belong together. Dress it up with the trappings of love. I'll be captivated; I'll hang from your lips, instead of the gallows of heartache that hangs from above.
I'll be your crying shoulder. I'll be love's suicide. I'll be better when I'm older. I'll be the greatest fan of your life.
Rain falls angry on the tin roof as we lie awake in my bed. And you're my survival. You're my living proof, my love is alive and not dead.
And I've dropped out, I've burned up, I fought my way back from the dead. Tuned in, turned on, remembered the things that you said.

Look Away

Rapid flashes of blue, red, and white slice through the darkness and play upon your masked face, slowly revealing, piece by piece, your stare of hatred towards me, humiliating my tears of fear, wounding my sob of hurt, and cutting my heart into tiny bits of sorrow that timidly cling together forming a new battlefield for love and hate to clash in wars of jealousy and deceit; a new place where once again a look of loathing will shatter all that is recovered, where my tears of fear will be cried, where my sob of hurt will escape, and where my hearts’ serrated pieces will struggle to reunite love and hate’s war ground.

Wishful Thinking

small fragile flake
raining down from the sky
blanketing the dismal earth
brightening the winters dark
a new blanket falls from the sky
illuminating the sleeping earth
children rush out to play
bundled in their warmest clothes
snowmen magically stand guard
over the angels on the ground

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose:
There’s a time to be born and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to harvest;
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time rebuild;
A time to cry, and a time to laugh;
A time to grieve and a time to dance;
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace and a time to turn away;
A time to get and a time to lose;
A time to keep and a time to throw away;
A time to tear and a time to mend;
A time to be quiet and a time to speak;
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.

Listen

Stop, let's smell the roses. They're far too beautiful to be ignored the way we always do. Stop, let's watch the sun set. Who knows if it'll ever be this brilliant again any time soon. Stop, let's finish talking. Just cause they brought the check, we don't have to hurry out the door. Stop, it's not that pressing. This moment's never gonna happen again, I'd really hate to waste it. You don't have to be afraid of the Big Bad World. I could lead you safely through it if you'd let me. You have nothing to fear from that Big Bad World. I could be your guide if only you'd believe in me.

How

How could you hold my hand, and pretend you need me?
How could you say you miss me, if you're not even longing for me? How could you say you want me forever, if you can't even stand to be near me. How could you look into my eyes, and see how I really feel. How could you see me shatter into many pieces and stand there emotionless. How could you take me for granted when all of my attention was on you. How could you tell me you want me, if it's not ME you "really" want. How could you tell me you love me, if what you feel is not for me. How could you say you're thinking of me, if you're dreaming of someone else instead. How could you want more, when you had all of me. How could you want me to fight for you, when you won't fight for me. How could you ignore my plea, when all I ask from you is just a little LOVE...

-Gaylord [Paraphrased]

A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

^^^^^^^^

Giving someone all your life is never an assurance that they’ll love you back. Don’t expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their [heart], but if it doesn’t…be content it grew in yours.

^^^^^^^

It's true that we don’t know what we have got until we lose it. But it's also true that we don’t know what we have been missing until it arrives.

^^^^^^

There are things you would love to hear that you will never hear from the person whom you would like to hear them from. But don’t be so deaf as not to hear them from the one who says it from their heart.

^^^^^

Never say goodbye if you still want to try.
Never give up if you still feel you can go on.
Never say you don’t love a person if you cant let go.

Incomplete

The edges of the map
curl inward and outward
on my wall
where the whole world
is sprawled
with torn and tattered corners
and muted waterfalls.

Lines keep spaces
and places neat
while I am thirsty
and incomplete.

The Earth lies
open and flat
with oceans and islands and mountains
and that
all stuck in white space with a tac,

So I can sit and stare
and wonder Where?-

While buses and planes and ships
and the like
all fly through the sea and the sky and the night,
taking humans around
this vast crowded globe
with so much to do
and so much to see
But so little time
and so little of me

Oh, to be in the land beyond the rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Some day I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me, where troubles melt like lemondrops away above the chimney tops. That's where you'll find me. Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow. Why then, oh why can't I?
"To do something you haven't ever done,
you have to become a person you haven't ever been."

The Rain Seeks No Shelter

On days like this
A wish is cloud-covered
Full of hopeless hope
Forever severed.
An empty, standing army
Makes a decision
Shoots down the vision
Falls down the stairs

Outside, disasters
And stolen tornadoes
Forget to remember.
The rain on the window
Tells no stories and
Seeks no shelter from
Double-paned shadows
And inclement wars

In this Paradise
We all have expired;
Shone with the gilt
Of a million lies
Pushed no punches
Pulled no desires.
We stand in the doorway
And envy the stars.

Sonnet CXVI- William Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Until It Sleeps

Where do I take this pain of mine?
I run but it stays right by my side
So tear me open, pour me out
These things inside they scream and shout
And the pain still hates me...
So hold me until it sleeps

Just like a curse, just like a stray
You feed it once and now it stays...now it stays
So tear me open, but beware:
There's things inside without a care
And the dirt still stains me
So wash me until I'm clean.

Love is patient, love is kind.
Love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Love keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Never

Never say I love you, if you don't really care;
Never talk of feelings, if they aren't really there;
Never hold my hand, if you mean to break my heart;
Never say forever, if you plan to part;
Never look into my eyes, if you're telling me a lie;
Never say hello, if you think you'll say goodbye;
Never say 'I'm the one', if you dream of more than me;
Never lock up my heart, if you don't have the key.

To a consistent lover...

I sense your presence by smell first, always. I can know that you're in a room, but I don't feel your presence, understand my desire, until I have some physical response, have you flowing through my breath. Sometimes we meet coincidentally and this is when your scent excites me most. Standing some place, unaware, it hits me and suddenly I'm more awake. My head turns to look for you before your name even registers in my consciousness. It's as if my whole body rises just a little bit. Occasionally, circumstances prevent the consummation of my lust, but just the smell of you, that moment of sensual recognition restores my mind to my body. I love you for your smell. It's a subtle pleasure which I do not compare with the effects you have on me when we join completely, although I want you just as much, if not more, for these effects. Sometimes it's almost like an addiction and I need you, to feel the warmth of your fluids inside me, on my tongue, the back of my throat, coursing all the way through me. I like you so many different ways, even with whip cream when I'm indulgent. And when I have had enough it hits me and I'm alive again. It always seems when I need you like this that I was dead or dreaming before our union. I want you for the things you do to me. And Starbucks has made you its whore. Oh, my coffee, I like you even cheaper than that.

Soldier Boy

I was blinded on that cold fall day
Whining and nagging I went on my way
Unaware each word tore us further apart
And that was the price of ignoring my heart
My mind reminded me of the distance we had
While my heart whispered, cried, and was sad
I wouldn’t understand why he wasn’t here
I couldn’t see past myself and my fear

He looked away on that cold fall day
Quietly he watched me go my own way
Aware of the hurt my words caused within
And his inability to be the perfect man
His grand efforts were lost after several defeats
Why couldn’t she see the big picture complete
He wouldn’t understand why she always wanted him there
He couldn’t see past his duty, the future, and his fear

Together we shared more than we knew
Yet we were alone, unsure what to do
Our eyes were closed along with our minds
Compromise and forgiveness were rare finds
An apology was whispered with a cold kiss
Life went on, he and I, just like this
Unknowing that a loving heart also dies
And no one sees until they open their eyes

Love is...

love- a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness

When I Have Fears

When I have fears that I may cease to be
before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain;
Before high-piled books in charact'ry hold like rich
garners the full ripen'd grain;
When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face
huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
their shadows with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,
that I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
of unreflecting love;- then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

-John Keats (1795-1821)

The Song: Until I Fall Away

I heard a song today.
One that swept me back to a time in my past
I had hidden from myself.
Rusted and faded in the spot where we fell
In a place I thought I had left behind.

Yet, it was there waiting to be remembered,
This sad little memory.
A time when I was happily bundled in forbidden love.
Waiting far too long
For something I forgot was wrong.

Society was such a cold, uncaring fool,
Forcing me to unwrap myself from love's warmth
And find another better suited to It's choosing.
Remembering the way I felt then
And realizing how I feel now
I recognize how stupidly I threw away happiness...forever?
Miserable, I sit here listening to my regret,
Fearing that I'll never love again,
And push repeat.

Quotes from Until I Fall Away by the Gin Blossoms.

The Light in the Darkness

As I await the eventual overthrow of the sun
by the moon and his army of glittering wishes,
I recollect the hallowed day our souls collided.

Through the many glimpses of shattered dreams
and dashed hopes for happiness,
my mind stumbles upon the "prodigious birth of our love."
How different it has been
from all the hopeless impostors of the past.
The soft grin of your lips
and the warm, content glow that shines from your soul's windows
are now the goals destined to my existence,
your happiness, the only reason for my being.
Through the tunnel of the future emerges,
you and I, star-crossed lovers,
meant to be, strong and true.

The battles is over, the conquest complete,
the moon and his army claim their now darkened territory.
I watch in silence, completely in love,
dreaming of you, my little star,
my perfect wish come true.

1998-Texas Gurl
The quote, "the prodigious birth of our love" was taken from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Annabel Lee

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love,
I and my Annabel Lee.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.

Excerpt taken from A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.

Is love supposed to last throughout all time, or is it like
trains changing at random stops.
If I loved her, how could I leave her?
If I felt that way then, how come I don't feel anything now?
